the types of transmissions are miss labeled. they should be as folows 440t4/4t60 4t60e/4t60e-hd 4t65-e/4t65-eHd
 


Thanks for the heads up on this....I know I forgot the e on the 4T60 and 4T65 and 4T65-HD, but could not find anything or just missed it on the 440T4 and the 4t60e-HD. Do you have anything on this?

Not off hand but I could get info up on them before this weekend. the only reason i said something is cause the non e trannies are the passing gear cable setup's
 
Chris the 440T4/4T60 NO-E, same trans just revised name, was used from 1984 until the early 90s and model dependant determined when it was not used anymore though it was used in a few cars until 1993 but phased out after that. The 1991 and up 3.4 DOHC W-body cars all had the 4T60E and I think some of the 3.1 W cars still had the older 4T60 until 92 but its been so long since I have built those its hard to say. I dont even see 4T60Es anymore and I used to build hundreds of them a year as it was one of the most popular transmission to build, or fail that is lol. The 4T60E-HD is a very rare bird and was only used in 1996 for the series 2 L67 cars which was the year before the 4T65E was introduced. I have a transmission tech seminar book from 1998 on all of the 4T60E-HD changes to add durability for the higher output L67 series 2 engine.
 
It would honestly be better off seperating the 4T60E away from the 4T65E, and change it so there will be a section for ( 4T60E / 4T60E-HD ) and then ( 4T65E / 4T65E-HD ). There are too many differences between the two and it would be easier to break them down that way especially for tech help so people dont get confused or try using 4T65E info for a 4T60E the way it is now as some people arent aware of the differences or what they actually have in their car.

Chris it looks like every post in the 4T60E section needs to be moved to the 4T65E section. I dont recall anyone asking any questions or bringing up new threads on them yet.
 


Nope, just plain old 4T60Es, I have built hundreds of them and modified plenty of them for beefed up cars over the years. There is NOTHING special about them, trust me.
 
because when gm first brought the vin x 3.4 out it was well over 400 wheel hp and they had to de tune the engine and beef up the trans to make it handle the power for the engine.
 


Well if it makes you happy believe what you want, In the transmission world they dont exist exept in 1996. What parts make them HD? I would love to know since none of my GM Hydramatic books mention this nor do any of my 5 different parts suppliers books. EVERY geartrain part is the exact same as the others. 1991-1995 and 1996 and up are the only differences between them. The 4T60E was used in 91 only with the 3.4 engines in W-body cars as the 440T4 wasnt durable enough. The valve body is the same as all others with different calibrations. It is all the same, they interchange when the properly changes are made for gearing. They had a higher stall torque converter, nothing special. On a side note the 3.4 never made 400 WHP, it made 281 at the flywheel, here is the link about all of true information

dude your so wrong man. Ive had 2 of them and know what the history is behind the 3.4 so please stick to the gen 2's and let me handle the gen 1's
 
When you provide factual proof, part numbers, pictures, etc, I will listen. Until then Im still a transmission builder that knows the truth. So if you have had 2 of them big deal, I have built a few thousand transmisions in the last 10 years. Again believe what you want, prove to me from something straight out of GM or the aftermarket transmission world and I will gladly believe you, I am done with this until I see something factual backing you up.

we dont want to start a fight here, but i'm gonna have to side with trannyman on this one. not just because he's trannyman, but because the only vehicles to get the 4t60e-hd were the 92-96 3800 S/C motors (bonneville/PA/LSS) no W-body's ...
