• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

transmission and other issue

As always - first some background and a story. 2006 GP GT - 160,000K wonderful miles. Last week shut off at a stoplight on my son. Cranking it got it restarted. Had it towed to the dealer and they could find nothing wrong. I was driving it for a few days and the trip computer just spontaneously reset. Went from odometer to large "GP" while you start it up.

SO wife says look for a new car. We went to a dealer and got a trade estimate - they would not even give me and estimate. They asked me how much I wanted and I said $1400 and they said no way.

So here it where it gets interesting. On the way home from the dealer stopped at my sons friend's house who has a steep driveway down to a busy street. Put car in park and took foot off brake and car started to roll back. Tried to restart the car and it would not crank. Tried to move out of "P" and shifter was stuck. So after some interesting trading places and some blocks had the car stable. Took out center console and could get it to move from P - but still car would not start.

Looked under the hood, and there is a wire from the firewall to a lever on the transmission. Turns out transmission was is reverse when it popped off. Put it back on and drove to a car dealer and it popped off again. Had to borrow a screw driver to fix it again.

So how does it connect? What is missing. What is the part called?

Anyone know how to add a pic from an iPhone?

you parked on a hill and broke the cable end clip when you tried to force it out of gear. with the weight of the car hanging on the park gear, it gets locked in park.

when ever you park on a hill, you set the e brake, put the car in N let the brake hold the car, then put it in park.

as far as the first issue, ask your son if the tack has ever dropped to zero while driving. or if the tack quit working before it stalled out on him. if so thats a crank sensor, they hardly ever set the code for it.

Got a part number for the cable end? Oh, and the parking brakes quit working years ago.

Good to see you still here scotty

Sorry pic is sideways, but it is the black cable. It is connected now, but it lifts right off.
Just need the name so I can search for the part

as long as you see your cable end in the pics there and its a match. 25 bucks seems steep to me for what you'd call a pocket part at the junk yard.
