Trans Vent gushing fluid

brush

New member
I have an 02 GT, 3.8. 8k on rebuilt trans. 1/4 mile after cold start trans vent on top of case began gushing fluid. I've read here it is likely the cover gasket and the trans needs to be pulled to replace the gasket. Any chance I can plug the vent for a few days to a week until I get to fix it right? Any chance something else was wrecked in the trans when it was driven for 5 miles, gushing fluid?

Definately sounds like a partially blown channel plate gasket. Plugging the vent isnt going to help any aside not leaking externally. This is main line pressure inside spraying straight up into the vent cavity and you will be driving around on low overall pressure and risk burning up the trans. It would be best to park the vehicle until it can be properly repaired.
