trans shifts late into third an O.D

can any body point me in the right direction? i have a 2001 gtp with under 100k got it for a partial trade from another car any way it will shift 1st to second fine then when goin to third an up i will have to take her to 6k then shes shifts an is fine in upper gears the car runs strong an will smoke the tires an once in each gear doe.nt slip and when i back up it kinda feels like it jumps outta gear an i have to put it back into nutral then back into rev an its fine??? im lost on this an am lookin for any kinda direction on what to look for i did check all the fuses an there was a broken pink wire under the counsel by the shifter an fixed it but no difference HELP!!
 


I have heard stories of people using a tuner to program the PCM's shift points, and accidentally changing something like that and messing it up. It's possible that a new/used PCM will solve the issue, or have someone look into the shift points if you know someone that can.
 
we.ll the guy i got the car from does.nt know anything about doin any kind of mods so i know the car is bone stock all the way down to the airfilter! i was wondering if the vss was bad or maybe the wireing harness goin to it and whare it is at on the trans?
 


do you think its an elec prob? or should i start lookin for another trans? an if so what years will fit my 01? i was told only an 01 will work an if so why is that?
 
Any 4t65e-HD from 98-02 will fit. They were put on all supercharged 3.8's in that time. I'd check electrical things first. And it really always shifts at 6000 rpms every time into third? That means you have to go 85 mph to get into 3rd gear?
 
lol...yes its like around 85 or so what can i say i live in the country an dont really worry to much about cops anyway i made a call to my local junk yard to see what the trans were sellin for (just incase) an they told me that only an 01 gtp an regal will fit so i guess they were wrong with make me feel better since they didnt have one nor did anyone else in my area so i think im gonna take it up an get it scanned to see what they tell me thanx a ton!! for your help !!!
 


whats happens when you finally shift from 2nd gear to 3rd? or does it go right to 4th than too? so you slow down to 40mph, does it stay in 3rd or 4th?
 
we.ll under normal driving cond. it shifts 1st to 2nd but will not shift after that unless i take her up an then shifts to 3rd an 4th and at that point i can back off the gas an drive normal so yes once it shifts its locked into gear an does not slip as is the lower gears from a dead stop it will smoke the tires thats why i was wondering if its an elec problem all the gears are strong an dont slip,i checked all of the fuses (all good) allthough i did pull the counsel apart an found a pink wire broken on the shifter an have fixed it and the filter an fluid have been changed also what do ya think? is it time to find another trans? the car has 100k on it and is worth putting the money into it.
 
Is it worth it? Ur call. Now it's a money question. Can u change trans urself? Or pay a shop $2k to overhaul it? Is car nice? No dents, rocker rust, good tires, and so on? I just swapped used trans in my car. It is fixed vs not moving. That's worth something. I had no 3rd. Sucks big time around town at 35mph.
 
sorry it took so long to get back on here anyway i have an appointment for a scan on tuesday so ill let you guys know whats up an hopefully its an easy fix thanx
 
ok went to the trans shop today and had him put a scaner on the car and got no codes so we took it for a ride and its comanding for a shift but the trans is not doing it and at first i thought it was the shift from 2nd to 3rd whare it is not shifting from 1st to 2nd untill 45 mph and the tach is at 55k it shifts into 3dr then 4th with no prob so with out him taking it apart to find out what it really is if anything what do you think? i was told that there was a sticking valve in the valvebody so i put some seafoam trans tune in but really hate driving it and have to run the crap outta it to get it to shift also when i back up in reverse for about 100ft it starts to shutter then pull forward about 2ft then back to rev an its fine?? man i think im gonna just get rid of it...lol
