Trans Shifting

Hey all, i did a bit of looking around and didnt really see what i was looking for. Since i just got my 97 GP, i have been looking around seeing what i need to change on her n make her run like new again. I noticed when driving that 1-2-3 shifts are perfect, kinda firm, quick no lag time, but 4th gear was begining to bother me, not sure if its just the car or trans that is in it but to me it seems that 4th gear takes a little while to kick in under light accel. My previous cars got to the final gear fast, i do know the fluid is dirty, and since i havent owned the car that long not sure how old the fluid is, going by Trannymans advice on his page im going to be just doing a pan drop, and replace the filter, and fill with dex 6. under WOT it drops down gears nice and feels smooth no shutters, just that 4th gear lag worries me a bit, thanks!

Do you have a GT or GTP? 97s used two different transmissions but the shift strategy should be identical between the two. What exact mph is your shift into 4th at light throttle? Often you wont have a shift into 4th gear until you get into the low 40mph range.

ITs a GT, and thats about right around 40 under lt throttle it hits 4th gear, ok cool, im not use to that, the mazda 6 i had would waste no time getting into 5th and the tbirds the same, trannyman, would you suggest before i drop the pan to use the seafoam trans tune? then after dropping the pan and fill with dex vi to use the slick 50 over 75k stuff, i have used it before in my older cars, but i never had access to a trans expert before lol

I am not a fan of using any additives as most of them have solvents to soften up the rubber seals which can cause failures down the road. Just drop the pan and do a fluid-filter change and you should be fine. Dex VI is a drop in replacement for Dex 3
