Trans rebuild

I am thinking about getting a tyranny for a 97 gt from the junk yard and building it myself just to have on hand, for a spare, just in case. Problem is I have never done this before biggest job I ever did was cylinder heads intake manifold and headers on a 1972 Mach I 351 Cleveland engine and that was in the 1980's. So I am wondering; 1.) Can I do this myself 2.) How much it will cost, about 3.) Anyone know of any good instructional information that could walk me through this? 4.) Where can I find a full rebuild kit?

If you have never rebuilt an automatic transmission before, I would not recommend it, unless you are very mechanicly inclind, and highly meticulous. Automatic transmissions are not very foregiving, and one snap ring installed incorrectly will
ruin you day, among other things that must be re-installed exactly the way it
came apart. Special tools, liturature, knowledge at the very least are needed.

I have rebuilt lots of transmissions, made a few mistakes, and I have learned from them.
If you like a challange, and can take your time, go for it.
If not, contact Tripledgeperformance and check on aquiring one from them.

Well I am mechanically inclined just rebuild the whole suspension myself controls are struts etc, plus did a lot oth this stuff back in the 70's and 80's and never on a fwd I do like a cahllange but that last part you mentioned is what I thought would give me an edge I would have plenty of time to do it since I just want to have it on hand just in case. Locals around here want $3,000 for a stock with a 6-12 month warranty and that just seems a bit much for so little a warranty. Plus I know I am a stickler for accuracy and detail which makes me wonder can I do this. Thanks for the help
