Trans locks out if Light is not on

I have noticed the last couple of weeks that while I'm driving The Drive indcator Light will flash on and off and If the light is off when I turn the car off when I go to crank back up if the Light is still off I can not shift out of Park. I have had to use the SHifter Lock On the Side twice just to get it going. Does anyone know what causes this and How do I correct it.

Sounds like power or ground going into the console are shorting.

The Drive indicator Light I'm talking about is on the dash, not the center console.

Oh..then likely your PNP switch is going bad. It's on top of the trans.

Bill can You tell me where to get the PNP Switch? My car has an External one on it already. I think its gone bad Now Light will not come on at all.
