Trans help?

04 go with 136000 on it, purely stock. Just bought the car from a local dealership about a month and a half ago. On my way back from work today and this wining in the transmission started up. The more I put my foot into the gas the louder the whine. I would get upto between 40-50 and the whining would stop but it would seem like it was stuck in overdrive, or wanted to be in overdrive. After a couple miles of the whining and somewhat normal shifts I left an intersection but there was no whining, but it started shifting hard, and has been doing it ever since. When I get to the point where it shifts from first to second it almost slips but jolts the car forward. Checked the fluid, seems to look good and be at about the right height on the dipstick. Any help?

best bet is to go to local trans shop and see if they will scan your car, it should have a code stored if its a no stop problem. the autozone scanner may not pick up what a trans shop scanner can.

i do know that whining from the trans is usually the trans pump dying.

Okay, how big of a fix is the trans pump? Would any shop be able to scan for codes because I don't know of any trans specialist shops within twenty miles of my house.

big fix. the trans has to come out.

and the worst part is they tend to shred up and litter the trans with metal shavings, out looks not good.

or the best case scenario, is your filter in the pan is really clogged up.

it may be worth while to do a pan drop and filter change, if you do it yourself its runs about 50 with fluid and the filter, or a bit less. reused the pan gasket. if you can buy a 2 gallon jug of trans fluid it comes out cheaper too. you'll need 8 quarts for a pan drop.

okay, i have a shop nearby that i would trust anything too, in the case that it is the pump, which its more likely it is because you said the whining could be the pump going. Maybe just go down there see what they say?
