ok ive got a 99 pontiac montana with the 3.4 motor and a 03 pontiac grand prix with the 3.1,they are both going to eventually need a transmission,the montana is going faster than exspected,ive heard that the 3.1 and 3.4 motors are the same,just the top end id different,would a trans out of a 3.1 fit a 3.4 and what years cross reference with the 99 3.4 and which cross reference with the 03 3.1 or in other words wich years of trans fit the 03 3.1 and 99 3.4,thanks
 


Not sure about the 3100 or the 3400...but I know the '03's are year specific with the 3800 4T65E's...so it would ONLY work in an '03 car unless you swapped the valve body and channel plate out.
 
A 4T65 is a 4T65 for the most part. 03 is the oddball year. The other things that would be different would be the gear ratio. You'd want a vehicle with an NA motor so the drive/driven ratio is 1:1. Beyond that.. the ratio is due to the differential. Which ...if yours is good, can be swapped over.
