Alright guys i have a 98 grand prix GT and a totaled ou 97 gtp lookin to swap motors im new to the site not sure if i, posting this in the right area but my tranny in the gt needs to be swaped as well as the motor right? and will and anything else need to be changed or replaced?
 


97 is an oddball year and the pcm and wiring harness are specific to the 97 cars only. You can install the supercharged engine with your existing transmission but the torque converter on your GT trans has a smaller bolt diameter so that either requires swapping the torque converter to the one from the GTP / HD trans, elongating or drilling new holes in the supercharged engine flexplate, or swapping the flexplate with one with the correct holes or that has already been modified to use. You can use the 98 GT wiring harness and make a few changes to it and also use a 98 GTP pcm. That will be easier to do than to put the 97 wiring and pcm into your 98 car. The GTP trans also has a larger differential than your 98 GT and because of this the passanger side axle is specific to the trans, so if you did want to use the 97 trans that matches the engine you will also need to use the passanger side axle that is correct for the trans.
