Tranny temp

I put over 300K on my GTP's stock trans without cooler... just fresh Dex 6 every 50K and only somewhat abusive driving.

Trans temp stayed fairly close to engine coolant temp, as you might expect.

When I played with a stock 9C1 trans cooler, got about engine coolant temp -15* max (in line with rad)

Now with my Impala, I have a standalone cooler only with no radiator cooling... fluid hits about 160-170* max, perhaps runs too cool in winter but I have experienced no issues.

You know I don't know about auto transmissions. I seldom have gone onto an auto transmission, and and I guess I misspoke since I have had transmissions sit for years and when getting these cars up and running we typically just would just check the fluid, but change the oil and filter in the engines then ran them without any issues... Most of the time. I think the transmission gets less condensation in it because there is typically only a small vent to deal with expansion and contraction of the system. The engine on the other hand is having air passed throughout the crank case and has larger openings and more moisture will get into the engine. Another thing is the types of oils being used one is a hydraulic fluid and the other is an oil and they have different properties.

Im no auto trans expert by any means, I've done valvebody modifications and tuning governors, replaced seals but never overhauled one. I'm sure someone with more experience can chime in.

Even with my 180 thermo my trans ran around 200°. After the tuNE with the 180° fan turn on and I also changed the fluid to dex6 the trans runs around 170-180 pretty consistantly. Even hard driving it stays pretty cool I love it.

I'm waiting until it's hot down here to see what my trans temps get to. Right now I've hit about 170 but that's it. It's been pretty cool here with highs only in the 80's so we will see in a few months.
