yo trannyman, i got a question. i have a 97 gp. and wanted to know if its possible to get the tranny from, i believe a 98, gtp and put it in my 97 gp? you think it'll fit? cuz i also wanted to swap the engine from the gtp to mine cuz its a s/c. do you happen to know the tranny type for the 97 gp? thanks tranny man. i appreciate it.

the tranny will fit as well as the engine, but the original PCM won't run either one without tuning. the FDR is different too.

Is your 97 a GTP or not? You didnt mention this and just say it is a GP which in 97 can have variations. Only the GTP or supercharged Grand Prixs in 97 came with the 4T65E transmission. All non-supercharged GrandPrixs in 97 came with a 4T60E transmission and if this is what you have then you must match it with the same, a 4T65E will not be a direct drop in. There are other threads on this subject if you search if you are interested in the info to swap.

Do you have the 3100 engine or a 3800? I am pretty sure most of the older SE models only came with the 3100 and that means the pcm and wiring is completely different and a 3800 isnt going to hook right up. You could use the 4T60E but in stock form it isnt going to last very long since you are adding 80+ HP and that or more TQ and that transmission was not intended for that much power.... in stock form that is. It can be upgraded but that means a rebuild and at that point you are better off swapping to a 4T65E
