Tranny Noise When I Turn The Tires 04 Comp G 4T65E

Hi I ran into a I think major problem while changing my brakes today. I had my car front end jacked up changing the front pads due to I thought brake noise when driving. Well I had it in the air both front wheels off and I was doing the passenger side I turned the wheel and herd a grinding noise. Well I put in in neutral no noise when u turn the wheel. Well I put it back in park I turned it again same grinding/catchy feeling. I am turn the wheels by hand by the way car not running. It sounds like a bearing in Diff cover right where the axle goes into the trans. I changed my fluid/filter a while back found a lot of metal in the filter and magnet. I did a post on it and have pics also I am betting that was some of the bearing or what ever it is making that noise. It would be great if TrannyMan or some one that knows a lot about 4t65e could help me.

I got to thinking While it is in park should it even turn? Most cars I have worked on wouldn't turn while in park but this is a auto / Manual I don't know if this is the difference or something bad has happened.

Completely normal what you are hearing.

Because in park technically you arent suppose to be able to move the wheels, but because you have the weight off both front drive wheels, you are able to spin them 1 at a time. I couldnt tell you exactly what is clicking inside, but you gotta figure it's from either the chain/diff/parking pawl.

Yeah I mean it runs out great changes gears good and don't slip, Here recently started making a little whining noise or dragging almost like a wheel bearing or brake pad so I got my pads today wheel bearings for both sides will be in tomorrow. I think ill go ahead and take out the diff. see whats up in there. I post an add a while back metal in filter during pan drop I think it finally showed its ugly face LOL. QuickSilver Replied to my post he was talking about a thrush washer in the Diff. if I am correct, I think he knew what it was soon as he saw those pics. I hope at least that is all it is a THRUSH WASHER instead of all those gears being chewed up.:( I will find out tomorrow, Is that a bad Job removing the DIFF. while in the car??

If your tranny makes a noise when you turn the wheels.....you have probably ran over your tranny's toes.

My first thought based on your description, especially the metal. You may have the diff pin coming free. If the metal you found was aluminum, that's very likely the diff pin. If it was steel, then it's very possibly the diff self destructing. I'd pull the axle and the diff cover to check.
