Towing with a GTP

So I've been towing with my '99 GTP for a little while now. Nothing too heavy, except for once or twice. Main reason I put a hitch on is so I can pull my 14' boat with out having to pull the truck out which gets 9-10 mpg.
Anyway, the other day I was reading my owners manual to find out what the wait limit for towing is. Then I read that it's 1000 lbs., unless you have the supercharged towing. Then you're not supposed to tow anying. Can anyone tell me why? I figure it has something to do with the supercharge possibly blowing air in constantly and damaging the motor. But if anyone knows for sure, please let me know because unless I know what the big problem for sure is I'll probably still do some light local towing. Just no more towing the boat 400 miles in a weekend.

probably because these tranny's suck enough trying to move these cars without more than an extra 1000lbs to pull, gtp's arent meant for towing bust out the truck or you can keep towing in excess of 1000lbs and blow the trans :)

I'm not towing in excess of 1000 lbs., the boat and trailer is definately less than 1000 lbs. I know it's a car, I'm not hauling loads of wood or anything like that. My point is, the manual says it's ok for the SE and GT models to pull up to 1000 lbs. while towing with the GTP isn't recommended at all. I'm curious to why that is.

Gtp's have different gears/diff... who knows why the engineers recommend you tow with base trims and not the performance trims. As long as your not driving like and idiot and stay out of 4th gear becuase its weak already, you should be fine to tow light stuff, if you really wanted to stop the sagging in the rear you could get some stiffer/high rate springs off of the oldsmobile intrigues.

If you have the truck though, i would recommend you use it, better to pay the gas than to risk the tranny on the prix.

lol bio is correct its a car wtf do you expect? grab the truck next time ewww a GP with a hitch...

Probably because it ISN'T made for it?

Fail .... You guy's both missed the question by a long shot.

More than likley it's there so GM won't get sued. It's just a percaution since the S/C models have a lot more power i'm sure it would be easier to mess something up in the tranny while towing with something that has more power vs something that does not.

Wasn't trying to answer the question. Why would you buy something like a Grand Prit to tow anyway. Oh well. To each his own.

I tow with mine all the time, and its great to see the look on people's faces when pulling up to the track in teh car you're about to race towing a trailer of tools.

Stealth Hitch FTMFW

Even if you know I have one you cant see it until you're completely under the car.
