Topswap for $500?

Hey guys, my friend has a 1999 GP GT and asked me about more power...I(the previous owner of a ws6) kind of laughed and said the old "theres really no replacement for displacement"...but i told him the only real way of adding any real HP was selling it and buying a GTP like he should have in the first place:th_winking:, or a topswap to the supercharged l67. But i looked for the topswap anyway and this is what i find on ebay 3800 Supercharged Top Swap Kit Supercharger GS GTP SSEI | eBay
A topswap with everything for $500. What i am asking is how much money would all of the fluids/gaskets take and wouldn't this cause MASSIVE engine problems? As from my knowledge High comp+Boost= awesome until the engine inevitably blows up :th_laugh-lol3:...So, without an intercooler i told him it prolly wasn't safe unless he got something like a 4 1/2" pulley. Am i right?

Lots of guys around here are rocking Non-intercooled Topswap cars safely on here, several with pretty good power. Morad knows their **** when it comes to 3800's. But You'll need a good tune to keep it safe.

Ah, but is their topswap with anything else engine wise? headers etc? This guy is bone stock, ~100k on motor...so are you saying that a General PCM from intense-racing will allow him to safely run this? I don't know of any tuning shops around here with dyno etc. to fine tune stuff, if thats what you imply by a tune.

Valve job on the heads.

Checked for cracks.

Pressure tested.

$200-300 right there.

Strongly suggest headers.

Another $250.

fluids would be another $100.

Gaskets are at least another hundred. Probably hundred and fifty.

Yep get the heads checked for SURE...I've bought two sets, both ended up being cracked between the valves. You wouldn't want to get it all together and have head problems.

In my search i also found the zzp kit...for 2500 hundred, but this one with all the extras would be around 1000-1200 right? if you had the money for both, what one would you go for? Also on the headers, you'd want a bigger header if its pushing boost in right? as N/A prefers backpressure?

If he is willing to spend $2500 on a top swap then he needs to ditch that idea and use that money towards a used turbo kit.

Backpressure is a myth

"Back pressure" is more or less a term to describe restriction. Kinda like how people use the term NOS when talking about nitrous.

And yes restriction plays a part in how well an exhaust system will flow.

Backpressure is to Restriction as a Company is to a Product?

Restriction is a lack of flow, so of course it maters in some sense of the word.

If you have questions about backpressure, search for it on GPONA, there's a few threads where it is described in great detail.

so, n/a doesn't like "restriction"? I thought that a smaller header functions better than a bigger diameter one on N/A and the opposite on turbo/supercharged?

Turbo is a different story....

However, primaries should be sized based on the volume of air you need to flow from each cylinder.

It seems 1 and 5/8th's primaries work well for N/A applications and mild s/c applications.

Larger S/C builds have seen benefits from 1 3/4 primaries.

When talking about back pressure most will refer to it in regards to flow or restriction.

When people talk about NOS alot of the time they are refering to nitrous. It's a term that for whatever reason people like to loop together. Kinda like back pressure and exhaust flow.
