Tires for CV LX Sport?

Since this isn't GP related I didn't put this in the tires section. I digress...

Needing to find some new shoes for my 03 LX Sport and have been kicking around a few options. I don't need a super-duper summer only tire, but a decent all season tire that isn't going to have the sidewall giveout if I happen to accidentaly take a corner too fast with 4000lbs of car. I know true snow tires are the only way to go, but some all seasons do better than others in light snow. Needs to be H rated minimal and prefer not to be directional. Would also like to get more than 35K out of them.

Stock size is 235/55/17. Currently running Toyo Versado LX II's on it. Get decent wear and good traction, but they suck in light snow.

Been considering going to a 245/50/17. The Sport rims are 7" wide and this size seems to give a better footprint.

The tires I've been looking at are Michelin Pilot Sport, Dunlop SP's. I was looking at the General Ultimax HP's but kinda ruled them out.

Anyone care to offer input on a good tire in these sizes? And yes, I realize the Michelin are going to run me around $230/tire in this size, but they do get excellent ratings. Not a huge Badyear fan, but the Assurance Triple Treads (or whatever replaced them now) were always regarded as a good tire as well. Been scanning tirerack for weeks trying to find something decent and all I get are reviews from toyota drivers and people that have only put 100 miles on them and think their great on their Prius... Might not fare so well on a full size RWD car.
