tired of not having any heat

98 grand prix gt has no heat. Temp gauge during the summer runs hot around 200-220 but these last 2 months of frigid weather the gauge is lucky to even budge more than a couple degrees. Heater hoses feel warm but not burning hot. Blows cold air no matter what. Any ideas? Im tired of being cold. I was kind of thinking the thermostat might be stuck open?

pop a new 195 t stat in, and flush the core. bleed the system and you should be good.

if the t stat is stuck open it will be open when you take it out, thats how most fail these days (open) so you dont over heat.

Most of the cars I have worked on will have heat for a short time and the dexsludge will clog it back up even after flushing.I usually use a chemical to clean the heater core, poured directly in and blow it out with the air hose very slow at first until most of the liquid is gone.I do this both ways a couple times and then the same with water. To clean the whole system I use TSP or dishwasher magic which is 75% citric acid. The same ingredient as the over the counter flushes but a much higher content.

i want to see the tidy bowl man make it through a water pump lol

Yeah I was going to say that but didn't want to get blazed lol.I actually use the works toilet bowl cleaner right in the heater core. Its acid so be careful blowing it thru I wrap a shop towel or two around the hose.

Dont muck with the heater core until you fix your tstat. Its literally a 5 minute 5$ job to change on these engines. Then test for heat. If you slip up and crack your heater core your gonna be a sad panda. Leave it alone until you know its not the tstat.
