Tire blew up in my face!!!

Ok, so after work today I decided to stop by the gas station and check my tire pressure. 3 out of 4 of them were off 1-2 psi...no big deal when this chick pulls up and asks me to check her rear tire on here Rav4. She's got some rims with low pros on it. So I look and sure enough her right rear is flat. I go over let her know that it is flat and that there is probably a screw or nail or something in it and that I will pump it up but it will go flat again soon. So I start pumping it up and notice the crackling sound coming from the tire. I don't think to much of it because the tire broke its bead so it would have to be reseated. The thing is the sound is not going away. So I start looking around the tire looking for nails or what ever might be wrong. (This next part happens in less than a second) I look in the fender and see a huge buldge on the inner side of the tire and just then BOOOOM!! Blows up in my face!:eek: Man talkin about wakin you up.

I feel very lucky that the side of the tire facing me didn't blow and that it was the inside, who knows what could have happened :th_nervous:

Moral of the story, always pay attention to what your doing and what is going on. When ever working on cars and your doing something major or the simplest thing, you could get seriously injured in less then a second. Be careful!! I have never had a tire blow up when inflating it, but believe me I won't forget it!!:th_thumbsup-wink:
 


Horrible at first... hilarious at second glance.. you are lucky man, but it's never funny unless you get hurt, haha

Yeah afterwards, I helped her change to the spare. I looked at the tire and the rim was dented not 1 inches from the blow out. The tire did have what looked like either a tire rub or curb rash that might have been caused by driving on it flat. What ever the deal was it caused a 10" tear in it now. haha

Oh yeah she had a baby in the back seat........he didn't even wake up!!!
 
This is why, at least when I think of it, I try to rotate the valves to the top so that I can sorta stand up when filling up tires and if I cant I try to stand or squat off to the side of the tire so Im not directly in front of it.

The thought of what happened to you seems to pop up now and then when I check the tire pressures and add air.
 


That sucks man. Glad your OK. Yeah, i like the air chucks that clip on to the valve stem so I can stand off to the side and put the air in. Got in the habit of that from changing 18 wheeler tires.

dude.... a tire exploding is such a ridiculous sound lmao..... it will def wake u up....i was at work and this three wheeled fork lift is driving by back and forth carrying sheet rock...not paying much attention me and this guy are standing there talkin..all of the sudden the loudest explosion ive ever heard goes off.... i thought i was dead, i thought it was a bomb lol..the guy next to me did a dance thats how bad he shook lmao...the tire was no bigger than like 14 inches..i couldnt imagine being next to a truck tire exploding.

Yeah, before it happened I was wondering why I was putting air in and it was still holding only 35 psi haha. Who knows how many times this this tire went flat and she drove on it.

DUH IT MATTERS lol anyways i can realate to this story a bit i work a NTB and i was changing tires on a Mitsubishi Spyder Piece of CRAP! and the moron put fix a flat crap in a tire..... no big deal whatever its just wet inside... so i break it down and im braking it down on the tire changing machien the metal hydrolic press to unseat the beads broke the bead and white harmful liquid shot everywhere and was about a inch below my left eye without safety glasses on long story short i wear glasses now haha it sucked!

^^Been there done that, I know exactly how you feel. I hate that stuff and if you don't yet......you will!!!

Yeah I knew the girl, she works on base. I don't know about hot but she is cute and has a dumb ass BF that probably talked her into getting those pos wheels anyway. :th_shakinghead2:

Nah i don't remember what brand they were. I'm sure they were fine, but for some reason couldn't stand up to driving while flat. lol
