So I have a 2007 gxp 5.3 not super charged. Cant seem to find the recommended mileage to change the timing chain. Does any anyone know the recommended mileage to change it at?

It's probably 100k. You jack the car up, unbolt the subframe then lower it, and then you can get to the timing cover through the passenger wheel well. Or you take the engine out.


Good luck. If you don't have to do it, or don't need to do something close to it and might as well, I wouldn't go through the trouble.

the timing chain isn't like a timing belt where it needs to be changed or the engine will fail. your timing chain will be fine in there unless you put in a heavy valve spring in.

X2. But if you're having lifter issues like your other thread makes it sound like, you might want to do a few things to freshen everything up. Like dod delete, cam, and while you're there, new timing chain. But again, not really a maintenance reason to do it.

The stock V8 timing chain is nothing compared to a 3800 timing chain, they don't need to be upgraded even when switching valve springs or putting in a big cam. The V8 is better balanced than the 3800 and puts less stress on the chain, it's very unlikely to ever break.

And to my knowledge there is no standard service to them, my 2006 sierra had 255k on the stock chain/cam/lifters and ran fine.
