What's up y'all. It seems like my gp always have an issue lol but anyway.....my 97 se about 2 weeks ago started making this weird ticking/knocking noise under the hood. The car sounds fine when I first start it up but after a short time the noise comes back. It even does that while I accelerate. I watched a video on YouTube and someone had a similar situation. He said it was a rod problem and it went through his oil pan on the highway!!! I need to know what should I do to fix this? The car only has 92,000 on the dash, hate to lose it :(
 


can you post up a vid, ticking noise is hard to diagnose with out hearing it, or being there.

is the check engine light on?

it could be a lot of things, anything from pulleys to flex plate. or the rod knock, lets hope not.

a rod knock you will hear all the time, they dont really come and go. they just get louder and louder.

have someone hold the rpms at 2500 or 3000, and try to pin point it, you will have to get under the car to really hear if its a rod knock in its early stages. (oil pan) listen to it. use a large screw driver or wooden dowel, a fat one. one end to your ear the end to the part your listening to.
