Ticking noise from my tranmission

Hey whats goin on guys... I have a question regrading my grand prix, i was driving it home yesterday and i notice that my transmission was making a ticking noise by the front tires. I let it sat for about 30 mins. then I went out to check the transmission fluid to see if it was low but I could really tell cause the fluid was all over the dip stick. Is there an easier way to see if im low on my fluid or what could be the problem.
 


Get the transmission up to full operating temp. Park it on a LEVEL surface. Leave the car running in Park and pull the dipstick. Wipe it off, reinsert and pull it again and then read the level. Car has to be running to get a proper level.
 
i just took the car for a drive on my lunch break and then I checked the fiuld. The fluid was fine but i was listening a little more to the transmission and its not really a ticking, its more of a wynd.
