ticking exhaust sound with PLOG installed

I'm trying to remove the front exhaust manifold. I'm not getting the nut on the left just below the coil pack to turn at all. I'm convinced its a 13mm nut, my sockets or wrenches will not go on, I think its the heat shield not allowing me to get a good hold of the nut

Re: removing front exhaust manifold

same thing happened to me... just have to keep maneuvering the socket head until it goes on enough to turn it. The heat shield can get in the way just like you said.. Just have to go slow and eventually it will come off. Try putting some WD40 on it to soak the nut/thread a bit to help with the removal

Re: removing front exhaust manifold

I got it off, put the PLOG on, now it ticks when I step on the gas

Re: removing front exhaust manifold

I want to get the FEL PRO gasket, just have the oem gasket on right now

Re: removing front exhaust manifold

still ticks with either gasket, the bolts are tight, I have snapped some in the past so I know when to stop tightening them, not sure what else to do

not the crossover connection that is for sure

could I use something like this?

I personally don't see why not.. But I am still surprised there is a tick.. Even with putting a layer of epoxy down, you still may end up having a path form for the exhaust to squeeze out of.

If it were me, I would avoid the gasket-form and try a few more things first just in case

spray some carb cleaner or WD around the manifold flange and fire it up to see if you can see bubbles forming in a certain spot to pin-point the leak. That'd be the next thing I would do. How bad is the ticking sound? noticeable from inside the car?

the ticking sound happens only when I step on the gas to accerlate, its fine at idle or crusing speed

took the PLOG to a machine shop, they wanted $150 to fix it, just said to toss it in the scrap metal bin
