Thrown Rod - Weighing Options

I have a '99 GP with the 3.8 supercharger option - L67. A few months ago it threw a rod and there is a hole in my block - the #1 piston. I'm under the impression the oil pump failed, but I'm not entirely sure. I'd hate to sell it or part it as the rest of the vehicle is in great shape.

I just want some opinions from the more experienced and more mechanical savvy users here. What are all my options moving forward, and what would you recommend? As it sits now, I've found a L36 locally and have wondered if I could strip the block and basically build the L67 into it. Is this even possible?

(Also, in case you haven't noticed.. And I'm sure most of you have.. I don't actually know a lot about vehicles. My uncle is a backyard mechanic and he's been telling me a couple things here and there about what I might be able to do with it..)

Thanks for the replies!

l36 bottom end works, im running one as well as a few others. then theres all the top swaps here too. l67 are getting hard to find so when your backs to the wall, the l36 fits the bill.

you'll want to check your heads and if still usable use them and the rest of the parts. they all bolt right on the l36 block. you will want to install headers to help let it breath, your stock tune should be ok, but a tune is nice all around.

you also need to swap the flex plate from the l67 over, unless the new l67 has a dual drilled flex, sc and na trannys have a different converter bolt pattern.

may as well re gasket the whole engine too, oil pans leak, the bolts leak, so use thread sealant on the pan bolts, and rtv on both side of the pan gasket, do the rear cover and front cover and oil filter housing, you need new head bolts and new head gaskets as well.

The l36 doesn't work well if you aren't going to mod it. You are way better off looking for a l67 or l32 lower end.

Thanks for confirming the L36 bottom. I appreciate the advice I've been given, from you and from the others. I wish I knew more about this stuff.. Wish me luck!

if you can find a tuner local, or get a canned tune, but ask for the wot timing to be dropped one degree under stock from say 4400 rpm to the top of the rpm's. top or bottom swaps tend to knock less like that. mine did, and another guys tune i helped out with.
