throwing coolant out of the back of the motor?

^ didn't use RTV or lube when I did mine, they've held up for 10k miles and 2 removals/re-installations... not a drop of coolant from them.

I'm also not terribly careful when I do engine work, mostly because I'm usually in a hurry. Just double check what you're doing when you have a few seconds in between one part and the next, and you'll (hopefully) prevent yourself from getting it all the way back together before finding a problem...or maybe prevent a potential problem from happening in the first place.

and i am not going to use any rtv or anything. i will clean it really well like advised. i have a 2005 base model, these will fit? i understand they are only $10 but every day makes a difference because all 3 of my vehicles went down within the last week. this is the cheapest but most work. the cummins needs a fan bearing and assembly...so that must wait. and thank everyone for the response, haven't gotten feedback like this in a thread on here or cummins forum yet so thank you all!
 
also has anyone had a small rattle under the car from a loose exhaust? i lost one of the little loops that holds onto the hook down there and have had rattle for a while now, and also i had a PO420 code but when all this stuff started happening it went away. had the codes for multiple years and i'm ready to cut it off and straight piping it or something else..very tires of these things happening.
 
I use rtv on my coolant elbows as well, never a leak. They feel way too loose in there for my liking without it.
 


never used rtv, just clean the holes well, then oil the o rings and slide em in, get all 3 bolts in but before you snug the first bolt down make sure the top elbow is square looking between the lim and bracket. you do have a little wiggle room.
 
awesome, i got the elbows and radiator hoses in from amazon. hoses look a little bit smaller but the inner diameter should be the same. i used gates hoses. the dorman elbows look good and i can't wait to get them installed and see if that fixes my problem. also going to order an LIM gasket i think also before i do the teardown. i will do the grease but i'm not using rtv. any advice before i attempt anything? and thank yall so much!
