Thermostat

what does a 180* thermostat do when compared with stock thermostat? Pros/ cons?

A 180* stat will open when the coolant reaches 180*, where as the stock is set @ 195*. A 180* will help your GP to run cooler as long as you have air flow. If you run a 180* stat with a stock pcm, youll notice it will run hotter. You'll either need a reprogrammed pcm or a manual fan-turn on switch to take full advantage of it. The downside of a 180* stat is you will lose some mgp's, but not a lot. Im personaly running a 180* myself along with a manual fan switch.

yea you'l def want a tune, my gas mileage was awful but after Josh and I reset the fans, and did some tuning my gas mileage is moving up again.... thank god!

I didn't notice a drop in MPG's with my 180* stat and that was before I had put in my ZZP pcm with reprogrammed fan turn on points.

I've done a little research on these balanced thermostats and didn't find one available for our engine. Does anybody know if a balanced thermostat exists for us?

I dont remember where I found it, but I had found a balanced thermostat for GM vehicles before. It looked like one for our cars but I dont remember the details on it now.

Yeah I remember only seeing one for the old grand prixs with the older 3.8l which doesn't take the same thermo as the 3800. I would like one, I hope they do exist for us cause they are the shizzz nit!!:th_thumbsup-wink:
