The Whipple Turd

Since my turdbo car has been under the knife for so long.... decided to pick this up and throw money at it.....

Picked it up last Saturday
Scraped off all the stickers on the glass
Removed e85 badges
Stripped and got strut tower brace setup powder coated black
Replaced filter

PRJ came down yesterday and we did some tuning work on it.
Then took it to the dyno today to work on WOT tuning

Came out pretty well ... 562whp ... full exhaust, e85, belt slip, and ****ty alternator (Voltage was nose diving)
MSD DIS 4 is disabled (pretty sure its reason it shuts off under boost.... who would have thought it would go bad..... :th_laugh-lol2: )

Would break up around 6300 rpm range ... Plans were to take it out to 7000 rpm.

Over all happy with the results... And know there is more power on the table to be had if can get some gremlins resolved.

Hoping for hitting the track this coming Friday.

Good to see another whipple 3800 back out on the road again! I unfortunately lost one of the fuel pumps a couple months ago so mines parked until I get some free time to mess with it... Oh well summer is starting to set in so the good part of the driving season is over here anyways.

What size pulley do you have on there now?

Took car to track this past Friday....

Got some numbers... not good numbers tho.

Only did 2 aborted runs and called it a night.

1st run I let off just after the 8th. Just trying to get a feel. Plus no cage, no fire jacket,
no nothing. 11.95@99 mph ... Baby launched it.

2nd run we made some changes to PCM. Bad idea. Not sure exactly yet what
happened, but before the 1/8th we think sprag or something slipped in trans.
To high of a shift point was set and it just didn't like it at all.

Started to sprinkle rain down so packed it up and drove it home. Ended up not
fully raining and it stayed open. But I was to chicken to do 3rd run with no
trailer. I want to peter putter it up to 3800 meet at the end of the month.

So for now it looks like more bugs to fix. Got to 212* in staging lanes waiting.
To much crap in the front of the car. Looking into a pusher fan setup.

Couldn't do the rear cables. They were on car still, but nut and washer needed on each side wasn't there. Doh.

Even if it was a crappy night and nothing impressive, I was still happy it could run an 11.95
with me letting off way before the end of the track.

Nothing was removed. Full exhaust, street tiresin rear, full tank of e85, ect. If anything
this car is heavier than stock.

So ... plans are to try and get MSD box fixed/replaced... Its the HO version. Not ment for street.
So apparently probably reason why it burns out quick.. (plus they are garbage)
Might try the non HO version .... or ditch the whole thing all together... or find alternative.

Then if trans is hurt... once my turbo build is back from TEP.... get Dave to refresh this one.

Waiting on some new pullies to come in to tackle the belt slip. Sending new blower pulley off to Carbinite.com
to get coated and see how that holds up. Along with new lower idler that is 3.5" vs 3.0" on now.

Will get it figured out eventually to make it WOT worthy again :)

For the hiccup on 2nd run.... hit 7125 RPM in first... apparently it did not like that so much.
So in a few weeks, will attempt again, this time with the shift points back down lower and see if can
do a full pass.

good job on actually driving the car instead of letting it become a relic.

good numbers for shakedown runs, too.

Gonna be working on this weekend... change out the idler to bigger one... remove the MSD box to get repaired...
Fix the fuel pump level sender (its a hacked up canister and apparently doesnt work so well) and few other odds and ends.

After the meet on the 25th, will take it back and see if can get a full pass.
