ok so i could not find any thing that was helpful.

what are the differences between these motors?

gm 3800
dodge 3800
ford 3800
Hyundai 3800
nissan 3800

there might be more but thats all i can remember.

i know some of them are different because they are RWD application but the rest are front drivers. what makes one better than the other?

well from what i read one of the first 3800 motors where from GM. then they sold off the design. but to make this thread short they are all different motors with the same displacement? if thats the case it makes sense.

i really do love the people on this forum. very kind and have good humor.
 
ok. i know that. but what is the differences in the technology? with them all being the same size they must all have different stuff to make one have more or less power than the other?
 


They are COMPLETELY different. I couln't even name all of the possible differences because it amounts to EVERYTHING. I'd be willing to bet you can't find a single part on any of them that are interchangeable. Except stupid things like a thermostat or something..
 
LMAO. I needed a good laugh. Half the motors you listed as 3800's are DOHC engines lol. And those are just 3.8l's not 3800's. No one uses Gm's 3800 in anything else
 
I understand a person with limited knowledge asking this question. The answer really is that theres a billion differences between each of the motors you listed. As you can see by the responses, even the name is different. GM calls the 3.8L a 3800 and all others will call it a 3.8L or a duratech, blah blah blah.

Some have pushrods to open the valves, others have overhead cams that ride the valves. Some have long strokes, others short... tons and tons of differences.

To me it's kinda cool that you looked around and thought, "hey...3.8's are in other stuff are they similar?" They are really only similar in the facts that they are engines and have a one gallon displacement. Since it's a 3.8L ..... take a good look at the urinal the next time you are pissing somewhere and know that the amount of displacement in your engine is the same amount of water per flush in that urinal.

LOL Not very green are you, most urinals have 1.5- 2 wpf nowadays :th_jester:
 


I know that the Ford 3.8L motors love to eat headgaskets and warp heads, among other issues. Possibly the worst motor Ford made in recent memory, other than the 6.0L Powerjoke IMHO.
