I've been a Grand Prix for as long as I can remember. When I saw this car roll on the line, I claimed it thinking it was time for a project. At first I thought she was solid until I took off the ground effects and found the dreaded rocker rot which the Grand Prix is known for. (You can see my first one next to it.)

So far I've finished the Driver's Side Rocker and have prepped the Passenger's Side.

I'll post photos of the mods on the drive train tomorrow.

GOOD.

LUCK.

Looks like you've got quite a bit of work, have fun and yeah...pics are a must.

Thanks man, I have a ton of resources at the yard my father owns, so I have the parts/resources/know how. This is my new baby. Such a shame she only had 76,000 on the clock and someone let her sit.

are you gonna undercoat it?

Heck yeah. I'm not taking any chances. Once the passenger side rocker is added, I'm going to undercoat it and go over it with a fine tooth comb to make absoloutley sure its sealed.

u have? haha

oh, haha my bad.

Looks like my 4 door underneath....i think mine's worse though lol. You've got your work cut out for you. Looks like you're doing good though.

That looks great! That's the only thing wrong with my car - the flawed rockers. I wonder what something like that costs to have repaired?

Thanks brother!

If you buy the materials yourself (which I would recommend,) it'll probably be cheaper for you.
4 Aftermarker Rocker Panels (There was so much rot, I had to use two on each side) Should run you about $250
Bondo/Sealer/Adhesive/OEM Spray Paint $150-$200

For labor, it'd probably be anywhere between 10-15 hours of work. Body Shops around here usually get $60-$85 an hour, so between 600-1275.

Thanks for the info. I have a 2 door and checked on them before and they seem more expensive to buy them for 2 door vs sedan. Maybe this winter I will get some help and do this project. It's crazy because my car is an 02 and the rockers are gone... but the rest of the car is in good shape. I think the previous owner lived on a dirt road because there was evidence of stone chips on the hood/windshield and the rockers had dirt built up/trapped inside the side skirts. Maybe that sped up the rust. Great job on the rocker repair tho! Looking forward to see what else you do to the car.

Yeah, now that I'm at work, I looked up the differences in price and for some reason the 2dr rockers are more than double the price of the 4drs. If you do decide to make a project out of it and fix your rockers, drop me a message, I'll be glad to share what I know.

just noticed youre from methuen. nice lil town. been there a couple times.

If you ever come by Methuen again, drop by Frams auto and check out some of the nice cars we have.

So, despite getting my ass kicked by school, work, and the women-folk, I've finished up the bodywork and had her painted. I got the hood from no1kicker on nepontiac.org and the spoiler off of ebay in october.

I love the fact that your repairing it and not junking it. No many people would want to save these cars.
