Temperature creaps while idling?

afternoon all, Now that the outside temp is in the plus', my GP seems to get what i think to be to hot while idling in traffic. It runs 2 ticks under 70 while driving9now that i switched the thermostat from the original 195 with a 180. Thought that this was the cause of the temp increase problem, apparently not. My question is what would be causing this? Intake manifold gasket, Water pump or is a cooling system flush required? Please help!!
Thanx in advance, Mark

Sorry should give you the rest of the story. My bad!
The temp climbs to 100, then when traffic starts to move the throttle seems real spongy untill the temp drops. after that it runs fine till the next stop. The fans come on at 95, so far they're not allowing it to overheat. I notice no coolant in my oil or oil in my coolant, no leaks. So I'm not convinced it's a gasket leak, Maybe head gasket?
Again, please help!!

The temp is going to go up when there's no air moving through the radiator. They'll steady out when either the fans come on or the car starts moving at a decent speed. It's normal.

I guess I'm just suprised that there is that much of a reliance on the cooling fans. Now that I think about it my regal had more grill aswell as my pick ups.

Pickups would be different if they had a belt driven fan. It's constantly turning so the radiator always has air passing through. Something to check is to make sure you still have the air dam at the bottom of the radiator. It won't help it creeping up while you're sitting still, but if it's missing putting it back will drop the temps faster once you start moving.

did you just switch the thermostat and think it would work or did you also change your fan turn on points to be lower?

The way it started, It seemed like a sticking thermostat would be the likely and most inexpensive fix. Plus from what I've read through various threads here in GP forums, with you gentlemen having an untold wealth of knowledge of these cars , It sounds like my car would benifit from the 180 thermostat.
I have no means here in Thunder Bay, Ontaro, to have any of the parameters of my pcm changed, still have to contact Will about a new pcm with his recommended tune programed. I can't wait to drive it with a new tune but money dictates so it sits at the top of the list for alittle longer.
Thanks for the input and knowledge, Mark.

Wish i could figure out how to post pics, shes a cherry 99 sedan, Lady drived professionaly maintained. Before me! I see so much potential!!!

TTT i have the same issue...except i dont ever hear my fans kick on high speed mode. they are on when i turn on the a/c so it doesnt really get hot, but before i swapped in teh 180 thermostat, the fans werent kicking on, and the engine would be at 215, 230 sometimes when driving in street traffic. is it a fuse or relay blown? i went checking stuff out with my multimeter and all the readings seemed good, but now my multimeter is busted...got to head to rad shack again sometime and get another.
