Temp gauge?

I was driving around town and my temp gauge, which normally sits below half rose all the way to five eights of the heat, didn't hit red section, I turned the car off at let it cool down, didnt happen again. I was driving home when the heat went above normal but not too far, then went back to normal. Will it happen again? And thoughts on a problem or a fix?
 


I was just about to post something similar. My 98 when sitting the temp climbs to 210 where the fans finally cut on, but it normally sits right between 160 and 210, at the line, I have coolant, fans turn on late though. Should I be looking into the thermostat or the fans/pcm for the issue...?
