Temp gauge not working.

Ok I have a 2007 pontiac grand Prix base L26. I took it to my buddies shop to flush the heater core. The temp gauge worked fine the entire time. Finished up and started my 50 minute drive home. Half way down the highway I look down and the gauge is buried at the bottom. Not sure what the deal is. Car had trouble starting. Once started and running the top radiator hose can be clasped by hand. The cars heater issue seems to be fixed though and I get good hot air. Thoughts?

The temp sensor is a two part sensor, 1 signal to the dash and 1 signal to the computer. It's possible that part of it died, you can take a scanner with live data and I bet the PCM is still seeing a coolant temp but the cluster is not.

As for the hose, a bad rad cap could cause the hose issue.
