Temp Gauge 05 GT

New to the forum and I have read a lot before posting. Working from phone and search features weren't pulling anything up. Let's make this short for now. 05 GT, temp reach red a couple months back. Changed coolant and water pump (shop). To me it still seems to run hot. Now I never really paid attention to my temp Gauge until the overheating. So Gauge is broken into 4 pieces and my car runs just under half. But in traffic it will inch towards or just beyond half. Normal?

Literally just replace thermostat (because upper hose was hot with lower warm) so I need to take it for a ride in the morning. Back to the temp gauge, are those readings normal? What temp is half way?

Thanks in advanced and I post more info when/if needed.

sounds normal. top hose should be hotter then the lower, lower hose has the cooler coolant in it as it leaves the rad and re enters the engine.

your temp needle sounds a bout right too. these engine will rise in temps some in traffic, lower when on the move.

I can't be for certain. I know the oil change place said I needed to flush the coolant for about a year. One day I noticed that my coolant was low so I was going to pick some coolant up and then get it flushed within the next week. Well, forgot about coolant and about 2 weeks later the engine ran in the red. Just a dumb move.

I figure it ran low because while I was on the side of the road pouring coolant into my overflow, i couldn't keep coolant in the tank. Just ran into the rad. So after letting everything cool off, I opened the rad and topped off. Made it home fine, flushed coolant the next day. Ran fine until water pump blew 2 weeks later.

As mentioned, I'm just always worried about it. Haven't gone for a ride yet but will soon. I will then check levels after letting it sit.

is the coolant still dropping low? ( with no outside leaks seen?) if so you have a bad upper intake gasket i bet and its eating the coolant little by little.

Nope. I've kept an eye on that since the over heat. If have my gauge have halfway under normal driving is normal, I think I'm good. Been having issues with the Harley so I'm hearing everything. Broken or not. Just need working vehicles if you know what I mean.
