taking forever to blow heat

I've noticed the last two years my 2008 GP Base takes a long time to blow heat.

If I set my HVAC to max heat and max blower start the car while the engine is cold, it takes about 15 minutes before the engine temp gauge starts to make it to the first tick mark, then it starts to go up to the 2nd tick mark and stays there.

When it gets past the 1st tick mark I get warm air, and the 2nd it is hot, but when I first got this it took probably 5 minutes at most to get hot air.

I replaced the thermostat in it, topped off the coolant thought it got a bit better but now it's back to taking 15+ minutes to warm up.

Over summer I did notice when I do heavy acceleration on the highway you'd hear water rushing in the heater core, which I never heard before.

I tried to burp it but seems like nothing helped, not sure if air is trapped in the core? I get heat but it takes forever.

Also haven't had the coolant flushed yet, it's at 60k miles probably time for that also?
 


what temp t stat did you install? 195 is stock.

your core has air trapped in it also, thats the water sounds. take both hoses off the alt bracket, take a garden hose to either hose and run the hose till clear water comes out the other hose, then put the hoses back on.
 
Start by back flush your heater core.

Once the car has reached normal operating temps, re bleed the air from the system.

I couldn't quote you fast enough! I'd second checking the thermostat you bought or simply replacing with a new 195.
 
flush the core you'll be fine.

also leaving the heat fan on 5 and letting it warm, your helping to slow the heat up time. the core is a little radiator, you run the fan it makes the coolant colder. run the fan on one or two. you'l have warm car in 10 minutes.

or, just jump in it and drive after it idles for 2 or 3 minutes. all i do now a days. your'll save gas, they just drink it idling.
 


Also try not setting the heat to max, set it on low fan setting till it warms up some. I know my car if I leave the the blower off or on the lowest fan setting I get kickass heat in like 5-10min then crank it. If i leave the fan on max the car takes a long time to warm up.
