Taking a few seconds to start? Starter the problem?

I've never had a car that takes so long to start. I bet it's 2-3 seconds sometimes.

The LS1 popped off immediately today after sitting for 6 months straight untouched.

The grand prix can sit for a few hours and it takes forever for it to crank over. Is the starter getting weak and should be replaced soon or what?

If the car is still warm, it starts normally.

How cold are we talking about?

Have you done any maintence to the car?

Cold car temperature wise...not air temperature. Seems to do it when it's 1 degree or 70 degrees.

all the basic maintenance was done by the dealer when i bought it..

new front struts
coolant change
atf changed
i changed the oil
new plugs and wires

none of this should even have to do with the starting issue though...well maybe the plugs and wires could..

I suppose i need to change the fuel filter, not sure of anything else needing changed.

I mean the starter is what cranks the engine, so i figured that'd be it

But you're having a starting problem. Not a cranking problem correct?

Any codes?

Could be a bad Fuel pump or Fruel Pressure Regulator.

honestly, i'd consider that the same thing...care to be more specific? i can be dense sometimes

no codes

No problem,

Cranking is turning the motor over trying to start it

Starting is the motor is it being able to run. You're cranking the motor but it's just not starting.

So if it's just not wanting to start then it is not the starter. If it's not wanting to crank then it's more than likley starter, Battery cable/starter cable related..

Kinda make sense now?

Maybe it was how I worded it.

yeah mine does the same thing... i also was thinking that i have to replace the fuel filter... but that thing is so stuck on there.. it has 90k miles on it lol.. but yeah replace your fuel filter and let me know! i think that's what it is.

The fuel filter shpuld not be stuck. All you have to use is the A/C / Fuel line quick disconnects. Should come right off.
