tail lights on 00 grand prix gtp

someone hit the back driver side of my car while at the store and now i have a hole and large crack in what seem to be just a "cover" on the tail light. the bulb is not exposed and the red lens underneath is not cracked or chipped. The question is do the stock "covers" come off and can i replace them or is it all part of the tail light assembly?
 


The exact same thing happened to me and I can't get a spare set here. I'm about to try some acrylic molding with a clear sheet about 2mm thick and use clear silicone sealant at the edges and hopefully it will come out decently. Will post pics once done.
