Swap= not running, misfire

got a 98, blew the motor and got an 03.. swap everything over that i needed to run..also installed headers, turn key and engine starts revs to 2500 and then dies...if you hold the pedal down to about 1100 rpms, missing like a mofo... now i was thinking maybe there was a vac leak, but i ruled it out... checked spark=good injectors=good the only thing i can think of is crank sensor or cam sensor....unless there is something im missing here or cant think of...someone please chim in and help out!
 


i was doing some thinking, if im right the 03 model is a genv and my old motor was a genIII now would the LIM on the genv motor be different then a GenIII LIM And i bolted my GenIII blower on, and thus would be making it run like crap?
 
L32 or not, would not effect how it ran. It's the same motor with a different blower. That wasn't until 04 anyhow..

Try resetting the PCM? Not really sure what the issue might be based on your description but I know after my swap my car would start up fro about 2 seconds then shut off. Turned out to be the PCM, which just needed to be reset, then I was in the clear.

You said you checked spark, how about the coils? they the ones from the stock motor or the swapped motor?
 
i tryed both coils, used my old coils that i know for a fact worked.. and still no change... pretty much you start the car and it dies rightaway, starts then dies.. but if you hold the gas pedal down when you start the car it stays running, but has a very bad misfire...but let go and the car dies... pulled the maf and start it, it idles at 3000 pulled the tps idles at 3000. ill try and reset the ecm...but lets say that does not fix the problem, what am i left with? crank and cam sensor?
 
Did you put a 03 PCM in there with it? If so that might be the case the '03s are quite different. Sounds like a huge vacuum leak to me...did you swap the heads, LIM, blower, TB from your old motor or are they all from the '03 car? GenV is a L32 thing like stated...the '03's just have the GenIII...but they have the '04+ transmission
 
If you're using your original PCM (which you'd better be, or your transmission is going to hate you) put your 98 throttle body on and it'll probably work better. The MAF sensor and calibration are completely different in the 96-98 from the 99+.
 


yes i have the 98 pcm...the 03 was different and didnt feel like rewiring it when its not needed to do so.... the only thing i swap out was the blower to my 98 blower.. the new one had a drive by wire throttle bodie and i cant use that... other then that all i did was hook up all the sensors and mount the blower and i was done. and yes i put a new gasket on. didnt have to take the throttle body off to take the blower off, you dont have to. and i know the throttle gasket is fine. it worked fine before it blew.
and how do you get a leak with a new blower gasket, and im sure you cant mount it wrong, unless your just plain stupid! so lets hear some more thoughts!
 
If it was a DBW TB, that also means it had a Gen V blower. If you put your Gen III blower on a Gen V LIM, you have a massive vac leak under the snout.
 


If you look above on my other post, I typed 03 mistake, But did ask if the LIM of a genv be different from a genIII!! and that I bolted a genIII blower and that's my problem! All I get is there the same!! So if there indeed different and I didn't notice it, now on to gettine a throttle body for a cable and a lq4 maf...now where isthe write up for the maf and the map sensor? And sorry do not wish to sell the genv lim at this time.. Thanks for the help guys cuz I was stumped!
 
wait...you have a LQ4 MAF and GenV without a tune? Thats another problem...I'm so lost...sentences please.
 
ok well from what ive gathered. he has a GenV LIM and a Gen3 blower. there is your first problem and the massive vac leak because the LIM is 1/2 inch longer opening for the blower. now onto problem 2 you need a regular throttle body that is not DBW. why are you running an LQ4 maf for? use your throttle body from the old engine. as blue stated you also need a tune for the LQ4 maf. let us know what is going on

You did ask about the Gen V, true, but you also said 03 more than once, which would be a Gen III, and said you ruled out a vac leak. There's no way you could have done any checking for vac leaks at all if you missed this one.

Ok so your saying I can bolt on a throttle body from a genIII that has the maf already in it, and is a three bolt pattern to a genv blower that has a 4bolt pattern. Sorry I don't see that happening! I'm talking about getting a throttle body that is for a cable type not DBW so when I do that, what am I gonna do about a maf? So I was thinking ls1 type maf. Cuz that's the only way I see it working out! Unless there is some other way to do it. Sorry about my typing, I'm doing this all from my phone And it has a mind of it's own!
 
There are adapters available to use an L67 TB on an L32 like you want to do.
ZZ Performance

You can certainly use an LS1 or Northstar TB, plus an external MAF, but you absolutely MUST tune for this change. Really, just using the Gen V without a tune isn't a good idea, IMO, but it could work as long as you use your stock TB.
