Suspension Options

Hey guys i have a 97 GTP Coupe and i am looking into getting new struts/springs all the way around and possibly a few other things as well. I have already installed the GMPP Handling Kit and now its time for more!! Here is what i am looking at..

-GR2's or Comp G Struts
-Vogtland or DNA Springs
-Anti Pogo Washers
-Strut Mounts
-Shorter Dog Bones
-Dorman Trailing Arms

Anything i missed? All opinions and advice welcome. Thanks.

Yes, please spend the extra and get vogtlands. I had DNA springs for 1 year and my suspension was unbearable. My suspension felt like it was bottoming out over even the smallest rough pavement. After swapping them out I noticed that what was bottoming out was the DNA springs on themselves! With Vogtlands the car rides like a road worthy car.

Dunno what all the hate about DNA springs are, if you have ****ty stock high mileage struts, of course the ride is going to suck. Shorter springs RARELY bottom out on a properly working strut because the strut is supposed to bottom out first unless you removed your bump stops and isn't the springs fault. And when springs do bottom out, they make a fantastic CLANG that you can't mistake, especially for a full year. My only gripe is that the rear hasn't settled as much as I though it would.

I was leaning towards the vogtlands anyways.. So i will probably go with those. And I thought Excel G's and GR2's were the same thing?

..Anyone ever heard of those Stagg SHS struts? Dosn't appear to be a bad deal but i am just unsure of the quality vs GR2's or whatever else you guys would recommend?

My recommendation is to do it right the first time. If you want some decent shocks look at this thread for part numbers http://www.grandprixforums.net/thre...-vs-GR-2-interesting-discussion-with-KYB-tech

You also have the option to splurge for the AGX's for adjustability.

If you want the car to be lowered just a bit and retain the factory ride then go with vogtlands.

I would also go with Vinnie's spacers over shorter dog bones. With vogtlands you won't really need them since the drop is not that much. I would also included moog sway bar end links front and rear. Also check the outer tie rods and lower control arms.

I ran them with brand new excell G's, new control arms, mounts, the only original thing in the car's in front end were the subframe bushings. The car rode like crap for the year they were on. car was unbearble. Mind you i live in a large city with bad roads if your roads are smooth as ice then good for you. But in my environment they were horrible. Also when i took them off less than 7k miles later my struts were completely shot. The strut rods did not come back up.

Thanks thats a good thread. Looks like i will be going with Excel-G's then. Now to decide between Vogtlands and SSC springs..

No no no cheap eBay struts. Just go the route that many have gone and go with the KYB excel struts and w/e lowering spring that you decide to go with..

Ok I'll be going with kyb excels and vogtland springs. As well as anti pogos and possibly shorter dogbones? Thanks for the advice guys.
