Suspension clunk

Whenever i go over bumps the back right suspension makes a clunking sound.. sometimes its louder and sometimes you can barely hear it.. depends on how the bump is. It sounds different than my uncles shot suspension was in his gtp. It kind of sounds like somebody hitting to metal pieces together? you can hear it on the outside of the car also and its really really annoying. My one friend thinks the spring is cracked.. i think its something with the sway bar.. my dad thinks its the strut lol. Any ideas? Ill try to get a video up once im home from NYC

Rear sway bar hitting on the shock? After I redid my suspension I had the rear sway bar over toward the drivers side too much. It made a clunk noise when I went over bumps. Other than that it could be MANY things. It all depends on how old your shocks are and springs I guess.

well the body and suspension have 120k on them.. i tried wiggling the sway bar really hard and i inspected it.. dosent seem to have any problems but you never know once the 3400 lb beast is moving lol. Also when i hit a bump and turning the car feels like it will slip to the side

Did you try taking the wheels off and inspecting both front and back sway bars? they are only about 13 or 14mm in thickness and crack or snap all the way all the time...i had 109k on mine and it was babied by an older guy and the front was snapped.. Good idea even if they are not cracked or snapped i would replace them for added strength. When you go around the corner and it feels like a snow plow that is a sure sign it's your sway bar.

This is REALLY what you should get.

Well the noise is coming from the back.. i checked the sway bar and it seems to be fine.. it's probably the strut.. i mean the roads around here are soooooooo bad

Find a patch of road where the clunk happens. Note the precise spot and speed where you get the worst clunking.

Have a friend drive your car over the same spot at the same speed with you outside watching.

This is what I did to confirm my rear strut was trashed - the tire was bouncing up and down 4". I had spent weeks trying to find the source - looking at loose bodypanels, loose license plate mount, loose exhaustlinks et cetera.

I originally thought it was the strut. But, I pushed the car up and down at each corner and counted cycles until it rebounded. The damping at each corner seemed identical. Nevertheless, the strut was trashed. This old school method showed me nothing.

probably the strut, i had a clunk coming from the suspension not to long ago and it ended up being the strut. same symptoms as you
