Supercharger question

So I was wondering if anybody could tell me how to tell the difference between a bad supercharger coupler and bad snout bearings. I have a noise coming from the snout at idle but it almost sounds like its coming from the center of the snout.

Remove the belt, and rotate the pulley back and forth. If it has play in it as you're turning it it's the coupler. Snout bearings will not have a smooth rotation to them, and they will usually start to squeal.

So I took of the belt to feel for any play and I didn't notice any, also I noticed the noise tends to go away when the it gets to temp.

do you have a cone filter? if so it may be normal, they all make noise till they warm up and with a open cone you can hear the engine better.

I'm going to replace the coupler tomorrow. Does anyone know if I have to use Anaerobic sealant on the snout or can I use gm adhesive rtv?

anaerobic sealer is what you are supposed to use, i used hi heat black rtv, last year and im having no problems so far with it.

you only need the smallest smear on the snout and housing there, dont glob it on, you dont want it to be squeezing out all over.

Does anybody know if the black Christmas tree plug in the end of the supercharger shaft is necessary? I tore mine up pretty bad and wasn't sure if I should order a new one.
