sun roof popping and getting stuck -help

Since it has been warm enough to open my sunroof it has been making a popping sound when opening and closing and it occasionally gets stuck mid open and close.

I just put some WD40 on the track and that made the open and close not get stuck or pop anymore, but that was short lived. I also re-lubricated the seal. The hardest and most frequent pops seem to be coming from right above the switch before the window seals. But there is no latch or anything there that I can see.

I love my sun roof and it is open whenever it is nice out, but the popping has been getting worse.

Has anyone else had this issue ? know what could be causing it? or have suggestions on how to fix it?

I can go look at mine, but what year is your car? I have an 05, and they might be different.

I don't know.

mine is an 04.

I think the motor is fine because it wants to open and close. I put some WD40 on the tracks and wiped out some of the gunk in there since it has probably never been done and now it wont open at all on the right side.

before when it was opening, some of the popping was coming from the slider on track- like the track wasn't centered or something- obviously the track and the window haven't been moved.

Make sure the glass is adjusted properly before you look at the track. From the inside of the vehicle there will be two torx screws on either side where the glass is bolted to the track assembly, and you can loosen them to adjust the resting position of the glass. When closed the front should be even with the roof and the back should be just slightly above the roof, maybe 1-2mm.

Ok, I took some pics. I'll try and explain what I noted.

Here are the torx heads. The ones on the right hold the glass.

This pin on the front (left of torx) must engage on both sides as the glass moves open/closed. I don't see much lube on mine. Maybe yours is hanging up?

Now, personally, I think this is where your problem is. Mine is greased pretty well. If you cleaned yours all the way down to metal, get a tube of lube, my friend.

That little tab in the middle of the above pic looks like it could catch on something, but I couldn't really see where.

Hope it helps.

I'd just use regular old bearing grease if I had to buy some. I have a tube of moly grease open in the garage. Probably work just fine too.

You may want to check that side's hinge. My pic is kinda dark of the outside part. I can look again. However, I think to get the best view of everything, I'd have to remove the glass and have someone press the switch.

is the seal flush with the roof on the outside? I read somewhere that the front should be .5 mm below and .5 mm above in the back. Could you post pics of what yours looks like?
