Hey guys, I'm new here. I just got a 2000 Grand Prix GT and I want to seriously upgrade the speaker system/head unit. I just wanted to know what you guys suggest since all of you seem to be pretty knowledgeable and all and this is kinda my first car XD

Thanks.

Well I plan on doing it piece by piece, but I have literally no expenses and a job. That being said I can't blow like 4 grand on it haha.

kenwood, alpine, jvc, or pioneer for a headunit. kicker, memphis, and pioneer are nice speakers to replace the stockers. hope this gives you a start

Go with an Alpine CDA 9885. It has the reddish leds on the buttons like the rest of the interior. It matches mine pretty well.. It's also an awesome head unit.

how loud do you want to get how good are you with installing your own stuff whats the 1st thing you want to get?

Head unit first definitely, I want to get it damn loud lol but sound good of course. As for installing me own stuff, not very good myself, but I have friends who are more than willing to help who know what they're doing.

oh and as for that alpine, I've heard good things about it from others too so I'll definitely look into it. I've also heard good things about Pioneer head units, I'm not sure how much to trust it you know?

Under $200, Sony GT54UIW from Walmart for $140, GM wiring harness, & special order mount kit for $20 apiece. Add about $50 and you can add a remote harness to keep your steering wheel controls. (PAC SWI-X). Works great to me, and sounds great even with stock speakers, as well as USB IN, Aux In, CD, Sat Radio ready, 3-band EQ.

what JVC do you have? And from what stores could I pick this stuff up with? Also, with a different head unit will I still be able to keep the steering wheel controls? Iceman a remote harness will do that, what exactly is a remote harness? Sorry... I know I'm noob haha

if u can get the money, get an alpine head unit all the way. they are the closest ive ever seen to unbreakable, and they perform great. im sure others will disagree with that tho lol. but thats why if u watch competitions, anyone usin an alpine is usin a standard one, nothing special. much unlike the ppl with outrageous kenwood/jl audio ****. so thats my 2 cents lol. good luck :th_thumbsup-wink:

The best deck ive ever bought, i have 2 and never had problems with either.

I want one but they dont make them anymore..... And the replacement is out of stock as well.... :th_shakinghead2:
Hah well i got the good stuff then, if matt wants it then everyone should buy it! The new one looks pretty sweet I haven't had a chance to play with one yet though, the are supposed to be the same style just different look.

Alpine headunit + amp add-on.. powering a set of component 6.5" speakers in the front, with regular 6x9's in the back..
2 12's in the truck(maybe some rockford fosgate).. with an amp to power them..

You should be able to stay around $700 or so.
