Suggestions on good Winter Tires

So winter is coming and the tires I have now are getting beginning to show some wear and tear on the side wall so I'm gonna need to buy sold tires. What's some good brand name winter tires to buy ?

I have the General Altimax Artics and they are excellent.
Buy whatever is a better deal between the General and Bridgestones.

I shopped around online and got them for 105each/free shipping last year. Discount tire mounted them for $80.

Can confirm on the Blizzaks, we've been running those for a few years now and they are the best we've ever had. When I was going to school with the LaCrosse last year with just those just on the front I went through some really crappy weather (sleet, ice, snow, the usual Minnesota fun) no problem, they're amazing. But, when you have new ones in front with half-tread all seasons in back it can get a bit sketchy at times, especially in the school parking lot going too fast, lol.

i also got a pair of Blizzaks, and the other pair are dunlops. both pull through snow very well. bought em used too, have at least 1/2 life left. i only run em for like 2 months here, cause thats when i tends to get the most snow here, jan-feb. why burn em up is my thinking. they wear fast on dry pavement.

No. I'm saying the generals are better then the blizzaks that I currently am running.....you really can't go wrong with any real snow tire. But cost/performance factor on the generals is very good.

We payed like $90 per tire for our 16"s, doesn't seem too bad. And 15"s for the LeSabre will run around $70. *shrugs*

Pretty much any snow tires you get will be better than having no snow tires. I was running some Wan-Li's, which were fine, and a month ago I picked up some used Uniroyal's. Can't wait to see how they perform.

For an experiment I used my Summer only BFGoodrich - g-Force Sport COMP-2 on the day it snowed pretty good, blizzard conditions, well I had no traction, slid into the back of a city bus LOL, no damage to either of us though thankfully. Put on my six year old Michelin X Ice and the difference is night and day. I got traction again.

I put a set of Goodyear Eagle Sport A/S on the GTP, $97/ea. They are great in the wet weather, have not had them through a winter yet. I've given up on running a dedicated snow tire on FWD cars, better all-season tires will do fine in moderate snow. If the snow is ass-deep I drive the 4WD burb.
