Stupidity in the workplace

WarStryker13

I break things.
OK, so most know I'm in the Army, no suprise that some of the ones on here are...

But, there's alot that are not. So, I want to pose a question...

How bad is the stupidity/lack of common sense in the civilian sector?

Because I have not seen a single shred of common sense for my 5 years of service so far.

I've got some crazy horror stories, if y'all want. lol

I've been in customer service/financial institutions for 10~ years.

The public has got ignorant as ****.

The public has become rude as ****.

The end.

It seems much more concentrated here. Like its, encouraged or rewarded... Please tell me there's a place without the concentrated raw essence of stupid. lol

Well, Missouri has no indoor plumbing and most of the southern people that touch Arkansas are Uncle Daddy with no teeth...

...so pick your poison.

However it is much warmer than Alaska.

Rain.
40-45*
windy

I have to stay inside this shelter, and keep the A/C on... with wet boots.

I'll take hot swamp over this anyday.

Well... you don't need a resume to join the Army. I know there are brilliant people working for the Army, but probably a larger amount of idiots too. You don't need an impressive resume, experience, references....etc. The Army probably does some sort of loose back-ground check, but that's it. In the private sector... client always comes first, and many feel a sense of entitlement, and come off as arrogant jerks.

That's my $0.02

I could easily run a cable to the cab of the truck, where the heater is, but that's too much common sense.
I cant piss in the woods right next to me, I have to walk 3/4 mile to the porta-johns because a female might see my dick and get offended
We weren't allowed to bring our phones, due to the possibility of somebody dying during this training excercise, and somebody telling the spouse before the unit has a chance to take two weeks to tell them.

This is the kind of stupidity I want to get away from...

You all have summed it up. I am blown away as to how much "stupid" is out there. Here at work, ALL my phone calls are recorded, yet people still try and lie and BS there way out of a situation that was there fault. And my warehouse crew, well, they can't seem to be able to read invoices. Pick this wrong, ship that wrong. Two people sign off on it as being correct. What the FAWK!

I swear this planet will implode on itself in the next few years.

I'm going to guess you never attempted to join the military, or don't know anyone who has tried, or been in? Sure you don't need a resume, but you do need a little bit of intelligence. You still have to get a certain score on the ASVAB and if you don't achieve that score you aren't getting in. Regardless, intelligence doesn't necessarily mean someone isn't an idiot. ;)

You are property of the US government. But if you think the civilian job market does things that make more sense, I'm afraid you are in for a surprise.

The problem there is more laziness than it is stupidity. If your crew isn't held accountable for their mistakes then they have no reason to try to correct them.

your in fairbank AK? i feel sooooo dam sorry for you. I have been there and done that sh!t. it can get 100 in the summer and -80 in the winter. **** ALASKA lol. if you want to see less dumb people then get a job were you dont have to look at anyone and you are your own boss

True that. For me, I've always strived to be the best that I can be at my job, so to see these young bucks sluffing around not giving two craps, well that just pisses me off. In the past year we have had some changes, and there is some accountability, but not enough IMO.

We need more BroncoBoys in the work-place! :th_laugh-lol2:

To further expand on the OP, stupidity is relative. What one person sees as stupidity, another might see it another way. It's all in what YOU make it.

True, I am property of the Gov't.

But I've been in different units, my last two before this one actually tried to make sense. If you brought up an issue you were having and it would make sense to a regular, intelligent person, Something would get done to fix it.

If I found a better or even more comfortable way to get the same job done in the same time frame, I was allowed to do it. If I found a more efficient way to complete a task, it was taken into consideration and actually put into practice, unless someone else had an even better idea. If something seemed pointless to do, we didn't do it. No repercussions, we said "this is stupid" and our higher ups said "yeah this is. OK." and that was the end of it.

Here? If it seems stupid or pointless, I can bet money that it will happen. I'm talking Vegas kind of money. That's how much stupid permeates this brigade, and everybody just goes along with it.
