Stuck thermostat equal stalling (pre-overheating?)

My daughter has a 1995 Grand Prix with at least one problem, maybe two.

Question: would a stuck thermostat cause the engine to stall? ( before it overheated?)

The thermostat is hard to get to, so I have to find the right tool to reach housing , so I have been unable to replace it yet.

I may have it towed to a place to replace thermostat, but only if that will fix the stalling – if that's a second problem, the car may be junked.

Any advice you would be greatly appreciated

Nope, a thermostat would not make a car stall, just controls the temperature of the coolant, which would not make a car stall. That is a different problem. Sorry dude.

Yea unless you somehow get the thing hot enough for the pistons to seize in the bore that isnt the issue.

Yes.

I had a similar thing happen years ago in my Bronco (302 EFI) while on the trail. We were a million miles from nowhere, and a chunk of ice sliced my lower rad hose. I had no idea, was backing up to pull some others through, the truck died. This was strange as she never died. Re-started, ran for a minute, and she died again. I then clued in that something wasn't right, and noticed the temp gauge was pinned. Good thing she did die, cuz I had no clue and would have toasted the motor.
