Steering wheel controls backlight

The backlights on my streering wheels controls have gone out on my 98 GTP. First it was the right side then shortly after the left side. How are these powered? Are the bulbs inside possibly bad? How do I take these off to replace the bulbs? Any help here would be appreciated, I don't want to rip apart the steering wheel if I don't have to.
 


this is a good question... I dont think they come apart, but i could be wrong... i replaced mine with a pair from a junkyard for around $10... Its hard to beat that!
 
the bulbs inside are bad. they come out of the steering wheel and the bulbe are inside the button housing. but the plug is tricky because it stays in the wheel
