Steering wheel buttons: rattle rattle rattle rattle rattle rattle!

The buttons on my 2001 GP GT steering wheel that operate the radio rattle as I drive over bumpy roads. They're cheap plastic and they're kind of loose in their positions and they rattle around. If I tap on the steering wheel they rattle rattle rattle. It's insanely annoying. (It took me a while to figure out what was rattling.) If I put my thumb on them lightly when they're rattling, they become silent.

Do these things come out? Do they just pop off or something? I want to figure out some way to shut them up, whether I have to add felt rings around them or something else. It's driving me INSANE. Any info would be helpful.
 


I believe they just press in, but don't quote me on that.

Is the area they sit in in good condition? On the left side of my steering wheel, there is a small hole wearing right above the radio control. The result is a loos fit for the control, which has caused the buttons on the left side of said control not to illuminate. If I squeeze that are with my fingers, the lights work.
