steering rack-wheel binds when hot

I am on my third pump now, two rebuilds one new. Mechanic says it’s the rack (variable assist yes). The rebuilds whine was just annoying but the new one is completely unacceptable. The rebuilds were quite as a mouse until hot, the new one was noisy out of the box. All three became difficult to turn the steering wheel when hot. So the variable assist is hard to find the others are a dime a dozen. Do I have to replace with the variable assist rack or can I use the standard.
 


So I have to replace the rack. How do I tell if it magna steer variable assist or just variable assist. The supplier states there is a code on the rack at a 10mm bolt, cant find it. any ideas?
 
WOW what a pain. Rebuilt Cordone rack(mag steer) and new pump, added cooler. The whine is still about the same but no binding, now I am told there is a break-in period for the pump. Maybe I just need to add some cheese and crackers.
