starts for 1 sec. and dies, need some ideas

Well after a wiring harness meltdown in a 97 gtp, its ben hard getting it running again. The route taken is probably not the best way to go but was trying to be cheap... ugh.

98 wiring harness and computer in a 97 car. This means that everything hooks up fine to the fuse block but not much hooks up to the car's harness that goes up under the dash. No abs...

But... I was under the impression this stuff wasn't necessary to get the car to run. Think of it like an l67 swap into some other car. Just none of the extra crap is going to be hooked up.

My problem is it won't start. err, it starts for about 1 second and dies, and then will repeat in about 3 min.

Here is a video, sound isn't great, but it starts for a second then dies and won't restart.

I'm not sure if the car who the computer belonged to had pats or not, so it does have a pat bypass module hooked up to pin 70 on the ecm, but it doesn't change the issue.

I'm really at a loss, any ideas what I can check?

It wont start because you have the wrong pcm in the car. That oldsmobile pcm wont let it run because it needs a 97 gtp pcm. Get a tuner and flash the pcm into a 97 gtp bin pcm.

vin k and vin 1 computers are the same except for program and map sensor on the vin 1. It should still start as far as that is concerned, yeah its not the right fuel map for a superchanged engine but it should start and idle just fine. Its got a 98 harness so it does need a 98 computer, I still have the 97 gtp computer but its pin-out is totally different than the 98 harness, so it needs a 98 computer. I am planning on re-flashing a gtp program onto the olds computer when I get it running but it should still start and run with the non-gtp fuel map, its still a 3.8. I'm not just guessing about the pin-out of the olds vs. gtp computer either, I have an all-data pro membership and pin to pin its exactly the same. Unless of course i'm missing some detail here? I have read of people converting their cars from l36 grand prix gt's to l67's with the parts, and running the engine before re-flashing the l36 computer, so its basically the same thing.

To other poster regarding security light, my 97 didnt have vats and has no security light, and the security system isnt hooked up as far as I know, unless i'm missing something? The computer is from a car that may or may not have had vats so it has a bypass module hooked up that sends pin 70 on the ecm a 50hz 5v squarewave signal to enable fuel. But it does the same thing regardless of if the module is hooked up or not.

I wish I had an oscilloscope, i'd really like to see if that module works, and if the injectors are still pulsing when it dies.

Does anyone know what the absolute minimum the computer needs to get the engine started? Like crank/cam position, icm, injectors, fuse block and fuel pump,... does anything at all from the cars under dash harness need hooked up other than the ignition starter signal from the ignition switch?

My car Would not run with the incorrect MAP tables (had a two bar(l67) and one bar map tables (l36)) did just what you described. Which it sounds like you have a GTP 2bar map with a Onebar table. unless im missing something

I'm really leaning toward the theft system as well but from what i've read it should be disabled by using the bypass module. Is there anything else that needs bypassed for the theft system?
