Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Starting Issues

When ever I start the car the engine will come on but die after a second. This has been happening a lot. I can get the engine to stay on by giving it some gas after starting it.

Does this or has this happened to anyone else? Are they parts I can change to fix it?

Thanks
Tony

My car started doing that. It used to start on the first try, and then after a few weeks, it was the second or third try. Pretty soon, it died after I got it started.

It may be you fuel pump going bad.

Try cleaning you're IAC and IAC passage out. It is located on/in the throttle body.

I'm taking the car to the shop tommorow. I have to get a new driver side mirror put on because I ripped it off backing out of the garage. So I will have them look at it.

x2, ive heard it recommended to clean the TB itself as well, if possible. Some have said that this common problem with our cars is a result of the butterfly plate in the TB getting stuck due to carbon build-up.

i bought a 04 gp on monday and on tuesday it started acting up on start up. the whole reason i joined this site was to figure out what was wrong with it and this is the perfect thread. i talked to one of my mechanic friends and he told me to clean the throttle body. well im not going to have time until this weekend and my wife is driving the car all week so i brought it out to my shop at 10 oclock last night, i didnt really feel like tearing into it at 10 at night so i dumped some sea foam in the tank and ran some higher octane in it and wemt out and beat the piss out of the old girl for about 20 mins. my wife called me this morning and said it started right up.

i still plan on cleaning the t.b this weekend and going over the basic things on the motor. but i figured that might help until saturday.

anyone know how hard it is to clean the t.b.

thanks guys

Well it would be easier to take it off. When you put it back on just use some rtv. Don't even worry about a new gasket. Get the grey high temp rtv.

Take it off and spray it with carb or brake cleaner. Move the throttle body blade. Make sure that is clean. Take the IAC ff of the throttle body and spray in the passage. If you can't do that then just get it the best you can from the inside of the throttle body.

If you need anything be sure to ask.

thanks for the quick response ill try all that this weekend. ill let you know how it comes out

thanks
