Start up issue on 04 GT have to tap gas to keep it running

When I start my 2004 GT, I have to tap the gas pedal to keep it running as soon as it cranks up. Other thatn that, the car runs flawlessly. Not a big deal to me since I'm used to it. It's been like that for going on 3 years. I guess it's time to address the problem rather than just live with it! Any suggestions??

Sounds like its time to remove and clean the TB. Also, the IAC is suspect. May be able to remove it and clean it up and see what you get.

Clean mass airflow sensor with mass airflow sensor cleaner
Clean throttle body plate with throttle body cleaner
Clean or install fresh intake air filter
Remove and check spark plugs if less than 100,000 mi. Replace with stock if damaged, fouled, or near/past 100,000 mi.
Install fresh fuel filter

Air filter was replaced about 5k ago and the car is sitting on 142k. I've owned it for about a year and put about 15k on it. I bought it from a guy I know and not sure if he ever changed the plugs. I'll get on that ASAP.

Ok, since you bought it all you changed was the air filter. If you have not changed the rest (including the trans. filter/fluid) then I would do all that. Whenever I buy or get a used car I always assume that none of this has been done and change it all. Doing this ensures that I know exactly when everything was done and there is no guessing. I never assume the previous owner changed anything on schedule. I'd be willing to bet that those are the original plugs and wires and your plug gap is way off.

Nonetheless, always good to check that there's no rat's nest in there.

Most likely the throttle body. There's no IAC on 04+ (drive by wire) so when the throttle body gets cruddy the car doesn't like to start well. This is particularly pronounced when the engine is started warm. All you need is a can of throttle body cleaner and a toothbrush to scrub out the throttle body bore and butterfly.

My 2004 pontiac grand prix requires me to tap the gas pedal at least once in order to get it to turn over in the morning or after sitting for some hours. it only starts right up when has recently been cut off or maybe if it is warm. I have live here in michigan.

Can someone please tell me what to do to rectify this problem. its been doing this since i purchased it about 4 years ago.

just today when attempting to start it up at about 1:30 pm i could not get it to turn over even when tapping the gas pedal after I tried to start it first without tapping the gas pedal. I had to let it sit for about 20minutes then i started but it took mashing the gas pedal instead of tapping the gas pedal to get it to work. Anyone have a solution?????

how do you deal with mice jumping up into engine and making nest up under engine cover, eating at spark plug wires ???? besides using smelly mothballs?????
